Background

I got selected for the Product Design Internship at one of the most well-known startups from IIT Roorkee - Fampay. During the hiring process, applicants were given a product design task where we had to design a digital payment integration in SnapChat. 👻 Here's how I completed my design submission in 2 days. 🕓

Design Statement ✏

Imagine, you were recently hired by the Snapchat Design team. The team plans to release a new feature “SnapChat Money” in the current Snapchat app for India. They will introduce a wallet (not UPI) into which money can be added from external sources (Debit card/Credit Card/UPI/Net Banking) and then can be used for intra-Snapchat transfers,i.e.,  Snapchat Money can be transferred between Snapchat users and you have been appointed to lead and execute the entire design. Few things that are going to be a part of the flow which your solution has to cover:

<aside> 🤑 Send and Request money to any of your Snapchat friends or to a Snapchat username

</aside>

<aside> 🕓 Your Transaction history

</aside>

<aside> 🧐 Any use cases or edge cases to be handled

<aside> 😋 Socializing post-payment experience unique to Snapchat

<aside> 🤔 Anything additional required for a great experience

Tips:

• Focus on the primary user group that you are designing for. Snapchat has a lot of GenZ users especially teenagers from 13-18 years who define its usability. 😎
• Try to use native UI elements of Snapchat in your solution 📱

Quick note: This solution doesn’t aim to justify the need of such feature, instead it's a conceptual implementation.

What I must keep in mind? 📝

Here are a few pointers I noted to be considered in my design:

• The introduction of digital payments must not interfere with the core experience and aspects of SnapChat.
• The P2P payments are Non UPI Transfer - suggesting that a wallet system needs to be made where the user can deposit money from their Bank accounts.
• User must be convinced that these payments are secure and has no uncalled risks.
• SnapChat has a lot of GenZ users - Teenagers ranging from the age of 13 to 18 Yrs, who define its usability.
• The payment experience must feel like a native feature of SnapChat and adhere to it's audience.
